Welcome to LI3TMES
The Laboratory of Innovation in Intelligent IoT for Medical and Environmental Systems (LI³TMES) at UTRGV, led by Dr. Ahmed Hasnain Jalal, is part of the Nanotechnology Center of Excellence. It advances research in materials science, intelligent sensing, renewable energy, and IoT-enabled systems, with focus areas including electrochemical sensing, nanomaterials, polymers, composites, and energy storage. Equipped with advanced instruments, collaborative spaces, and computational tools, LI³TMES prepares students and researchers for leadership in academia, industry, and innovation.
LI³TMES research tackles urgent needs in biomedical diagnostics, environmental safety, and smart connected systems. We develop non-invasive biosensors for alcohol, glucose, lactate, and stress biomarkers, offering real-time monitoring that supports early detection and personalized care. Our environmental sensors detect VOCs and pollutants with high sensitivity, making them suitable for both industrial and urban settings. Integrated with IoT and AI, these systems provide predictive insights, improving public health, environmental protection, and overall safety while ensuring accessibility through low-cost, portable technologies.
Our vision is to create next-generation sensing systems that are comprehensive, efficient, and scalable. Multi-analyte platforms will allow simultaneous detection of key biomarkers or pollutants, advancing personalized health monitoring. We are also developing energy-efficient, self-powered devices that can operate autonomously in real-world conditions. With AI and machine learning integration, these platforms will deliver predictive diagnostics and real-time decision-making. By focusing on scalable fabrication and translation to practice, LI³TMES ensures that innovations move quickly from lab research to clinical and commercial impact.
